The Plum Leaf Bakery Story
Hello and welcome to my kitchen! I’m Carol Torian, the owner of Plum Leaf Bakery. I’m also an artist and a writer. I have had a passion for baking and creating memorable experiences since I was a kid. Some of my fondest food memories revolve around eating the red plums and black walnuts that grew in my paternal grandmother’s backyard. And the old-fashioned coconut cakes and chocolate pies that my maternal grandmother used to make for Sunday dinners were incredibly delicious. I remember that the coconut cake had a rich moist, tender crumb and silky meringue frosting that just melted in your mouth. Both of my grandmothers favored fresh, simple ingredients. I don’t recall ever seeing either of them open a cookbook. They knew their favorite recipes by heart. They cooked what they loved with love.
In my kitchen, I also cook what I love with love. I have spent years baking, cooking, and creating recipes. More recently, I have developed an interest in vegan baking, and I continue to broaden my knowledge in that area. With Plum Leaf, I wanted to create a bakery that would allow people to indulge in classic flavors, and also explore an interesting selection of vegan items. Whatever you chose, I hope it brings you joy!
Plum Leaf Bakery is a Raleigh-based, fully inspected cottage food business, serving the Triangle and surrounding areas. While I do not have a storefront, I do offer delivery in a limited area that includes Midtown Raleigh, and I can also make arrangements for you to pick up your items at a safe trade location.
I think that good food has the power to uplift and connect people. And I am deeply committed to giving back to the community. I believe that everyone deserves access to wholesome, nourishing food. That's why a portion of the bakery’s proceeds will be donated annually to local organizations that are fighting hunger. Together, we can make our community a better place for everyone.
Thank you for being a part of the Plum Leaf Bakery story! I look forward to baking for you!
Sincerely,
Carol
